  1. How did Mandarinclick help you?

Mandarinclick helped me by finding a 4 month internship for me in Shanghai.

  1. Could you describe your job/internship position?

I have worked in an agricultural trade firm, selling Dutch, American and Australian cattle feed in China. I have worked in the marketing department with one Chinese, one Dutch and one German colleague. During my internship I have analyzed the differences between social media marketing in China and Western Europe.

  1. Why did you decide to start your career in China?

I am studying International Business, and as part of this program, I had to do an internship abroad. China seemed an amazing opportunity: not only does it have a booming economy, but also an ancient and interesting culture.

  1. Could you describe your opinion on living in China? What do you like/dislike?

Living in China is a lot of fun. Every day brings surprises and the food is really good. Furthermore, people here are friendly, although they do not speak English most of the times. And I like travelling in China very much. I took trips to Huangzhou, Beijing, and Tianjin. Traveling here is cheap and safe!

  1. How do you spend your free time in China?

I worked 5 days per week, so I did not have a lot of leisure time. During weekends I explored Beijing. I have seen all the main attractions with the Great Wall as the absolute climax.

  1. What are the main differences between working in your own country and working in China?

I haven‘t got any working experience in my home country, so it’s hard to say. I have noticed that in China it is regularly expected to work overtime. Also, when you have a national holiday during the week, you will have to work during the weekend. In Italy, we don’t work during the weekend when we have a holiday.

  1. Do you like working in China? Would you consider a long term career here?

I do not know yet, first I have to graduate and then I will see what I want to do. The company I worked for also has a branch in Beijing. If I am coming to China in the future, I will apply for a job there.

  1. Do you have some tips for foreigners coming to China?

Yes, get Wechat! Wechat is like an improved version of Whatsapp. You can use it for calling, texting, ordering taxis, paying restaurant bills, receiving salary and so on. Every person in China has Wechat. You will love it!

  1. What is your opinion on Mandarinclick’s services?

So nice. They did not only arrange me a perfect internship, but they also helped me getting to know Chinese culture. It was a great help that I was assigned a ‘buddy,’ a Chinese girl (Amy) who helped me with all kinds of practical matters (buying prepaid electricity, a Chinese phone card, talking to taxi-drivers, party etc). We became good friends and next year she will visit me in Verona!
